NextIO N1400-PCM High-Speed PCIe Switch Module
The N1400-PCM High-Speed Switch Module enables blade servers to expand their PCIe signals outside of the chassis. It delivers a combined 35Gbps of I/O throughput external to the chassis for connectivity to standard PCI Express devices.
NextIO's N1400-PCM High-Speed Switch Module brings best-in-class PCI Express switching to the IBM BladeCenter H chassis. NextIO's switch technology allows all blade servers to extend their PCI Express signals to an external I/O expansion unit. The N1400-PCM interfaces to all fourteen (14) blade servers as x4 PCIe links and provides external connectivity to fourteen (14) x4 PCIe cable connections.
The NextIO Switch ASIC is unique to the industry and provides flexibility that allows simulaneous connections to multiple hosts. This is ideal for end customers as a "pay as you go" platform.
- Partitioning - Map blade servers one-to-one with downstream PCIe I/O ports
- Expansion - Map blade servers one-to-many with downstream PCIe I/O ports
- High Availability - Complete blade failover as n+1 or n+n redundancy
NextIO developed a Virtualized PCI Express switch to bring virtual switching and shared I/O solutions to blade server platforms. Switching over PCIe is much lower cost than switching over Ethernet, Fibre Channel or Infiniband.
PCI Express Solution
The NextIO module solution consists of two hardware components:
- High Speed Expansion Card (HSEC)
- N1400-PCM High Speed Switch Module (HSSM)
The HSEC is a Compact Form Factor (CFF) card that is installed in each of the blade servers and extends the PCI Express signals from the CPU chipset across the chassis midplane.
The HSEC cards are designed to be compatible with all blade server models including the HS21, LS21 and QS21.
