Software - High Availability Bull ARF Application Roll-over Facility for high availability
The ARF (Application Roll-over Facility) is a high availability solution for Bull NovaScale Linus servers, that allows system administrators to easily move an application and its environment from one system to another, to manage the system overloads during maintenance or when hardware failures occur. It offers a solution for application availability that is low cost and easy to implement for the whole range of the NovaScale family of servers.

The solution is based on an ARF cluster architecture using at least two nodes (servers or partitions) sharing one or more disk subsystem. In case of failure of a node or for reasons of administrative or maintenance, services associated with an application or a node can be restarted on the backup node.

ARF can also be used as a disaster recovery system, using functions of a standard mirror. In addition, the system is independent of the number of processors and partitions, reducing costs.

Easy installation and configuration

The use of simple menus and the ability to deploy quickly the same configuration on all nodes provides for the ability to create snapshots to save the topology and the cluster configuration to help facilitate the installation and configuration of nodes. Moreover, the automatic or manual failover of multiple applications to the node facilitates the smooth operation of complex systems.

Scalable solution

One or more nodes can be easily added to the cluster to respond quickly to a rise in usage. In addition, the number of nodes in the cluster is not restricted.

Surveillance continues non-stop

Permanent control of the availability of nodes is provided by a heartbeat mechanism. The administrator of the system is immediately notified in the event of an incident.

Additional services

With its long experience in continuity of service on major production servers, Bull offers a comprehensive set of services from advice to operational support.

Software - Infrastructure Management Bull System Manager
Bull System Manager is designed to simplify the management of all Bull servers and storage, and to enhance the system availability and performance. Thanks to its openness combined with an easy integration and deployment flexibility a larger number of servers can be managed in heterogeneous environments with a lower cost per managed system.

Bull System Manager (BSM) is a management solution designed for all Bull servers (Escala, NovaScale, Bull Blade Series) BSM provides a single entry point to manage servers as well as storage subsystems. It delivers powerful tools for Microsoft® Windows®, Linux® and AIX® environments.

Thanks to a three-tier architecture and the use of OpenSource components, enhanced, tested and supported by Bull, Bull System Manager can be easily integrated in enterprise large management platforms such as: Bull OpenMaster , HP OpenviewCA Unicenter and Tivoli through CIM (Common Information Model) and SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) forwarding mechanisms, thereby guaranteeing the enterprise investment protection.

Software - Virtualization Bull Performance Report
Virtualization capabilities provided by the VMware infrastructure makes the IT environment more flexible and efficient, while reducing installation and operating costs. However, by consolidating many disparate server workloads and pooling infrastructure resources, the virtualization increases the risk of resource utilization contention and consequently the inability to provide expected service levels. As an effective and proactive capacity and performance management solution, Bull Performance Report* enables to reach the full return on VMware investments by managing proactively and efficiently both physical and virtual systems in order to meet QoS and high availability objectives, while delivering resource optimization. Bull Performance Report (BPR) is designed for operational capacity management to help decision making and top-down analysis for anticipating performance quality issues. BPR helps to accelerate and optimize virtualization deployments and allows simultaneously maximizing VMware ROI and minimizing risks.

Software - Other Rapid Deployment Solution
With the current economical context, companies are buying others or selling non strategic affiliates in order to stay competitive. The expectations concerning the IT from your company are exactly following the same strategy: your IT needs to very quickly adapt to your company changes.

In order to reach this IT flexibility, Bull has introduced Rapid Deployment Solution which

  • Eases the deployment of large scale-out architecture
  • Restore access to application by image deployment on new hardware
  • Deploy security patches over all Blade servers at ones
  • Deploy same OS/application stack on any blade server or Virtual Machine

By using Rapid Deployment Solution, you will reduce your TCO by

  • Reducing deployment time
  • Assuring compliancy and reducing deployment errors
  • Improving application availability
  • Improving security in short timeframe
  • Simplifying management of images and the migration to different blade configurations
