CloudShield® Announces Applications for the IBM Blade Center Built on an Open Development Platform

Applications for the IBM BladeCenter PN41 blade provide security and services management

Bangkok, Thailand: ITU Telecom Asia, September 2, 2008 -- CloudShield Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of services management and infrastructure security solutions, today announces support for its DNS Defender and Subscriber Services Manager (SSM) applications on the new IBM BladeCenter PN41 blade. The combination gives service providers and national governments a comprehensive platform to protect networks from attacks, launch new services, manage network bandwidth and mitigate traffic congestion with a single blade.

"We have seen some of the most aggressive DNS attacks occur during the past few months and expect this behavior to continue. Service providers continually strive to improve security and subscriber services by effectively managing the increased demands on network bandwidth," said Matt Jones, president and CEO at CloudShield. "Protecting networks, retaining customers and deploying new services are crucial to the success of the industry. Our applications can be flexibly deployed to meet the needs of any carrier infrastructure and help enable today's converged IP networks."

CloudShield's DNS Defender application will run on IBM's BladeCenter PN41 blade. The software provides protection against DNS attacks and can reduce the number of DNS servers while improving the overall performance of the network. By eliminating the need for firewalls, load balancers and additional servers, DNS Defender provides carriers with a significant CAPEX and OPEX cost savings.

CloudShield's SSM is an enhanced solution for properly managing network traffic. Service provider networks need to have the ability to deliver latency sensitive applications such as VoIP and IPTV, without interruption. SSM gives carriers a better understanding of network traffic congestion, helping to deliver higher standards of customer satisfaction.

"In order to stay competitive, service providers need to increase revenues from new services offered to customers. New security attack methods and increased network traffic pose a significant challenge to those objectives," said Jim Pertzborn, vice president, Telecommunications Industry for IBM Systems and Technology Group. "The IBM BladeCenter PN41 deep-packet inspection blade, combined with CloudShield's applications, gives service providers the most scalable, feature-rich platform on the market today in order gain that competitive edge."

CloudShield's PacketWorks is the open development environment that enables rapid application development. It allows developers to build sophisticated security and service control applications four times faster than using other approaches. This open environment streamlines development in three ways: masks the complexity of writing massively parallel code for the CloudShield platform or the new IBM BladeCenter PN41 blade; makes optimal resource decisions so developers don't have to program these choices and has a built in understanding of packet and network processing. An open programming environment provides service providers and national governments the rapid programmability that they need to respond to changing customer requirements and the latest security challenges.

"It is no secret that the telecom industry faces a myriad of challenges today. Fierce competition among service providers is dropping prices, impacting profits and driving carriers to find new revenue streams," said David Vorhaus, research associate at Yankee Group. "Economic pressures are driving the demand for open architected solutions that enable rapid creation of new services. Carrier grade solutions that address security threats, combat network congestion and accelerate new service delivery are a stepping stone to tiered services across a wide range of audiences."
